Water resources in Kuwait are limited to seawater desalination, groundwater and treated wastewater. Seawater desalination is by far the main source of freshwater. Groundwater, thought limited and threatened by pollution and overexploitation is the only naturally occurring resource. Treated wastewater is an alternative resource, and it continues to grow with the increase in water consumption.
Water Kuwait is a leader in the introduction of new technologies, improving quality and reducing costs in desalination, wastewater treatment and groundwater studies. We are expanding the boundaries by using selective research, performing pilot studies, fine-tuning of existing systems, evaluating new procedures and transferring technologies from other industries into the water industry.
At Water Kuwait we understand that no matter how difficult the problem of water supply may appear, it can be solved effectively and efficiently by a combination of smart research and ingenious engineering.
At Water Kuwait we understand that the real challenge of future is demand management, since it involves ever rising human expectations and water uses, embedded into socio-behavioral fabric which operates in a non-linear fashion, and therefore does not yield easily to computing.
Our sights are set on the future by building of national capacity in water and wastewater, and a wide-reaching program of promoting water consciousness in our society, especially by increasing water awareness in our younger generation.
Research activities of WRD include Hydrology, Water Management, Desalination and Wastewater.
